My children are spoiled absolutely rotten.
As well as the weekend’s visit to Luna Park, they’ve also been to a live musical production of Scooby Doo (don’t ask), they’re lined up for a trip to Sovereign Hill and one to Sydney. And, thanks to RedBalloon, they’ve also been to the Gold Class cinemas to watch The Smurfs 2.
And that’s just in this school holidays.
The Chop and The Bump have, in their own little minds, reached the level of absolute VIP status. It worries me, slightly. Most of the activities we do are freebies, and the kidlets don’t seem to get the concept of things costing actual money.
Anyway, that’s another post, for another day. The point of this post is that we went to the movies, Gold Class, and most of it was pretty damn awesome.
There is nothing quite so gratifying as big, comfy, reclining chairs to lay back in while you’re watching a movie. Even if that movie is The Smurfs 2. Don’t let the bad reviews turn you off, by the way. The Smurfs 2 wasn’t that bad. It was kind of indistinguishable from the original Smurfs movie, but really, if you’re expecting that not to be the case then you’re gonna have a bad time.
If you must watch a kids flick on the big screen, Gold Class is the way to go. Gold Class cinemas only have three rows of seats. So there is far fewer patrons for your children to potentially annoy. You lay back, press your service button and have your Gold Class attendant bring you pillows, blankets, and drinks. You could, quite literally, fall asleep there. I almost did- it was only the continually bouncing four year old child who insisted on sharing my seat that kept me awake.
Living the sweet life here at the moment, obviously.
Maybe it’s not just my kids who are being spoilt.

I know, I know. This is a bit cushy compared to my usual RedBalloon missions. It’s game on again in November- I’m going swimming with sharks. Stay tuned.

We are off to see Turbo tomorrow, not Gold Class but if the movie is not enthralling I could fall asleep anywhere, comfort be damned! You and your littlies deserve these activities and, for lack of a better word, perks. You work hard and the universe is not averse to giving back sometimes.

I’ve been to Gold Class ONCE, ONE TIME and it was a decidedly more adult affair involving delicious fried foods and cider. Once in the cushy seats, I settled in to watch the movie and promptly fell asleep.

I’m still not sure my 8yo has a proper concept of money and cost. To her money is something that comes out of the machine in the wall and has trouble conceptualising how the money gets into the bank. She earns pocket money now and has to save up for things, and that’s starting to help.
