Flogging 101- The First Time Floggers Edition.

Howzatforawesome,

Hey everyone- I know, I know, I’m sorry. Depending on what type of mood he’s in, Mr Linky list may or may not be here, at the bottom of the post. LinkyTools are currently doing maintenance (on a Friday?! Really.) and that is a massive pain in the bum. Again, I’m really sorry, and things will be back to normal next week…. (or there will be big, big trouble, Mr Linky. I mean it. You have been warned.)

It’s Friday- that must mean it’s blog flogging time!

Welcome, anyone who hasn’t flogged before. I get asked by a lot of virgin-esque-ish bloggers “Eh? What’s this Flogging thing? I just don’t understand it…”

Believ me, virgin Floggers, t’s simple. Below this post is a link list of different blogs that you may enjoy. Feel free to add your own. All the technical directions are here. It’s simply a way of finding new blogs to read, and getting a few new readers for your won blog. Sharing the luuuuurve.

There is no pressure to Follow any blogs you don’t want to, or comment if you’ve got nothing to add. But, pretty please, have a click through the list and see what you can find. You won’t be disappointed. There are some awesome blogs out there, and we all put on our party clothes for FlogYoBlog Friday.

Now, one two three more things- if the all the html business, adding the button and what not, stresses you out, don’t worry too much about it. Eventually, you’ll get the hang of it. Feel free to add your link to the list, no matter how big, small, tech-un-savvy you may be.

And secondly, please don’t SHOUT at people in the linky list. I hate that. Maybe it’s the nanna coming out in me. But I will edit it out.

In other nanna related matters, I’ll also bl**p any swear words. I don’t mind them on my blog, but this is a blog hop (most of the time- on the days I remember to check the blog hop box),which means other people can display the list on their blog as well, and other people may be even more nanna-ish than me and not particularly want the word f*ck on their blog.

Or something. In the happy medium between being polite and anal, we find the asterisk.

Whatever-o. I think that’s it. Have a totally awesomeness weekend, ladies and jellybeans, and happy Flogging!!

The Rules.
  1. Follow my blog, the Random Ramblings of a SAHM. I never seem to get to reading all the links here. But believe me, I try. Not that any of this is my idea anyway- FYBF is MummyTime’s brainbaby, I’m just minding it for a bit.
  2. Grab B’s bubbly button and post it on your sidebar.
  3. Link your First Name and/or Blog Name and URL of your linked post (not your homepage) below.
  4. Add a short description (max of 125 chars). It could be a description of yourself, your blog or a teaser to your latest post. But be warned, Mr McLinky List doesn’t seem to groove on apostrophes, quotation marks, or other forms of punctuation. Use them at your own risk.
  5. Follow at least 1 linkyer/blogger (Be nice and spread the love).
  6. The list will be open for linkyers on Fridays (and for the foreigners Friday as well).
  7. A new and fresh link list will open  every Friday. And you will have to link up AGAIN. The previous link list  does not carry over to the following week.
  8. And lastly, have lotsa fun. I mean it. If I detect anyone not totally loving the awesomeness, I will bump you off the linky list. (Joking) (Kinda).

Obsessive Compulsive Pork Chop – RRSAHM

Obsessive Compulsive Pork Chop

by Lori Dwyer on January 13, 2010 · 0 comments

It’s offical. I mentioned in my last entry that I thought ds was dreaming about ice cream- and last night confirmed it. I woke up to the little darling crying out “More, more”. ran into to find him still very much asleep, but distressed. “More what, baby?” I ask. “Ish cream, more ish cream!!”, with ds poitning his finger in his mouth. Ooookay then. I gently reassured him there was no ice cream to be had and I toddled off back to bed. Strange child.

And he is a funny one, my ds (aka The PorkChop, Mr Chop, Chop-a-lop, Headley, The Headley Thing and Augustus Gloomp- poor kid has a lot of nicknames, no wonder he gets confused). Among his other obsessions, he has a thing for shoes. Not all shoes, just one particular pair at a time.

It started with a tiny pair of Nikes we bought him we started walking at 15 months. He loved them, happily wore them, but refused to wear any others. The problem with that was that while he continued to grow, the shoes,of course, did not. And besides that, the weather was beginning to heat up and his feet were getting very stinky, so sandals or thongs really were the order of the day. And so began the Shoe Wars.

Round One. We go on a special excursion to Big W, specifically to purchase ds some sandals. Spiderman sandals? “no”. Thomas sandals? “no”. Bob the Builder sandals? Ds‘s eyes light up, and I realise I have spoken too soon. They don’t have Bob in his size. Somewhat desperate by this stage, I spy a pair of Bob thongs in a size 5. it’s only when we get home and ds consents to actually wearing them (and I’ve hidden the Nikes) that i remember how much I hated thongs as a kid- that bit between my toes… turns out ds feels the same. Mum doesn’t have the heart to make him wear them. Round One Winner- Ds.

Round Two. Another special excursion to Big W and praise the Lord, they have Bob sandals in ds‘s size. Sold!! I also sneakily grab a new pair of sneakers for Santa to bring- maybe if Santa brings them, ds will be into them. For the moment, he’s happy with his “Bob’s”, as they are hence forth affectionately known. Round Two Winner- Mum.

Round Three. Santa brings ds his new shoes. Ds is not impressed. After much convincing (and temporary hiding of the Bob’s), he agrees to try them on. And they are too small. Turns out the little pork chop has had a growth spurt. After inspection of his feet, it’s found he has blisters from his Bob’s, and he hasn’t complained once, poor kid. Round Three- There are no winners here. But points detracted from mum for not noticing her kid was wearing shoes a size too small.

Round Four- A trip to Paul’s Warehouse the day after Boxing Day, at the height of sales insanity, in a desperate effort to replace the original Nikes. Failure. Spot some shoes with Elmo on them- surely that will be a winner? Wrong. None in his size. Finally, sick of battling with crowds high on discount Converse and Billabong merchandise, I grab an unbelivably ‘spensive pair of Etnies, which seem to be the only shoes available in kids size six. It’s not till later i realise what a smart move this is- they have a inner sole system that pulls out and they go up half a size. So Round Four Winner- Mum. And Round Five Winner- Mum by default. It will be a while before the Etnies need to be added to the secret growing pile of hidden shoes in the desk drawer (I really need to throw them out, but I just can’t bear to do it…)

Oh, and the Bonus Round- a pair of Cotton On Crocs, embellished with those little Croc plug things. Apparentley, they are only good for throwing around the lounge room and accidently-on-purpose hitting his sister in the head with. But at least these are made of foam and don’t weigh too much, unlike the tin spinning top she copped in the head the other day. But’s that a whole other blog entry, for a whole other day

The GrampOut- Part Two. – RRSAHM

The GrampOut- Part Two.

by Lori Dwyer on March 31, 2014 · 6 comments

This post brought to you by Aerogard, Mortein and Nuffnang.

***

The weekend before I start work, we go gramping.

All good gramping trips start with packing the car. It’s one of those completely irrelevant life skills I like to pride myself on. It’s almost like a life sized game of Tetris. I expertly stack and slot Eskies, washing baskets full of food, Aerogard, tents, camp chairs and numerous bags of stuff to assist with every possible situation.

The kidlets, seasoned travellers by now, strap in, sit back, and we get cruising. Their excitement level peaks somewhere around Shepparton, when the bouncing and countdown of kilometres begin (”How far to go? How long until we see our Nonna?”).

Arriving makes for two very excited little campers and one grandmother beaming with joy. We don’t mess around when it comes to setting up camp. The tent is up, sleeping bags unrolled, and camp chairs popped open within an hour or so of parking the car.

It’s ridiculously easy. I’m not sure why gramping ever seemed liked an idea fraught with trepidation. An extra set of very willing hands to keep the kidlets entertained makes setting up the tent a very simple process. Mainly because the Chop and the Bump don’t want to ‘help’ quite so much.

It’s lovely, having my mum camping with us. She takes the kidlets for a walk to explore the campground, and the Most Amazing Man and I get to chill out for a while, just the two of us. We relax, listening to the occasional murmur of people and the birds tweeting around us.

Time slides away so quickly when you’re camping. The afternoon fades away rapidly. We sit and chat for a while. The kids begin to get absolutely feral, so, after spraying them quite liberally with the Aerogard Odourless Protection, we walk down to the river. It’s not really bushwalking. But there are trees and bugs for the boy–child and dozens of gumnuts and rocks for the girl–child. She is a bower bird, but not just for all things blue. She collects little bits and pieces, anything that takes her interest. Her Nonna and the Most Amazing Man and I ferret things away in our pockets for her, keeping her treasures safe until she forgets about them (which usually takes about twenty minutes, or until something else catches her attention).

Gramping1

Then there’s UNO– many games of UNO, as predicted. There’s also Monopoly on the iPad, which kind of feels like cheating. But I really don’t think we could have fit the Monopoly box in the car. We light the Mortein Citronella candle Outdoor and he ambience is beautiful. Everyone looks better by candle light. It smells divine and there isn’t a moth or mozzie for miles. In fact, the kidlets not only don’t get eaten alive by mozzies, they don’t receive one single bite.

Dinner is a fairly simple affair. Because, much to my mother’s continual dismay, the kidlets are fussy eaters. As am I. So we cook sausages and have sausage sandwiches and, for the actual grown-ups (not me, obviously), there is salad.

After that, we have a campfire. Because it’s not quite authentic, camping without a campfire. We also have marshmallows, for the same reason. The kidlets love the idea of marshmallows cooked on a campfire, but not so much the reality. They end up eating them ’raw’. I prefer mine with a charcoal crust.

What with the sugar they’ve just ingested and the absolute novelty of camping in general and gramping in particular, we don’t even bother putting the kidlets to bed until we’re ready to sleep, too.

***

Waking up to spreading sunlight and birds tweeting is entirely peaceful. Only slightly less so when it’s combined with the excited early morning chatter of small children.

I thought yesterday went quickly. Today disappears even faster. I feel as though I’ve only just woken up properly by the time we begin packing up.

Pulling down a campsite is a weird thing. It’s been a living space for almost 24 hours– a family space. Somewhere to eat and sleep and laugh. Twenty minutes later, and it’s bare ground again. Apart from the peg holes hidden beneath the grass, it looks like we haven’t been there at all.

I hug my mum goodbye and there’s that sadness that’s always there when I leave her. I know I’ll see her again soon enough, and I talk to her on the phone all the time… but it’s just not quite the same.

Gramping has been entirely more awesome than I thought it would be. And the whole process is much, much less stressful than driving to Sydney and back for the weekend. Camping with the grandparents– 10/10. Would gramp again.

181. – RRSAHM

181.

by Lori Dwyer on July 10, 2011 · 24 comments

It’s been six months, today, since Tony died.

181 days.

181 days of… breathing. Taking great big gasps of air, whenever the pain recedes enough to do so.

181 days.

People don’t survive that long in the wilderness.

They said it would be slightly better at this point, that it would hurt a little bit less. They were right. This is relief, even if it doesn’t feel that way.

It feels as if I were burned, horribly, six months ago. Burnt, and in pain, for weeks that felt endless.

And now those raw nerves, that exposed flesh, is covered with scar tissue.

And I’m so horribly numb.

Every now and then, something will scratch through that thick grafted skin, hit a nerve. Sometimes it bleeds. Sometimes it even makes me cry.

And sometimes, those sizzled nerve endings, they begin to regrow. And they hurt, they sting, they itch. I could go insane from that itch inside my head. (Why…?).

I will never look the same again.

All I could think about reading this was how much I love scars. signs of life and all that. Now I don't mean that to be perverse, my brain went on a tangent without my permission…

But maybe somewhere in my tangent I was thinking that it's the wounds that are the bad part – but scars, scars are signs of healing.

my partner recieved 3rd degree burns to approx 40% of his body 6 years ago. His scars have healed, but if you look closely you can see. The worse are hidden from world under layers of clothing. what you are saying makes total sense Lori, the the scars may heal over time, but it doesnt change what happened, and if someone was to catch you unawares, naked in a sense, they would see your pain. You're such an inspriation. You're so strong, even if you don't feel it right now. You should be so proud of yourself. X

Wow, six months already. That sucks beyond imagining that, yes, you have been permanently altered by this. I hope, though, that as you keep putting one foot in front of the other, one day at a time, that it does get easier and that eventually you'll get to a point where you won't have to do it that way because you'll be OK again – forever altered, but OK. I wish nothing but health and happiness for you and your babies. HUG!!

No, you will never look the same again. the scar tissue will always be there, in your eyes, in your speech, in the way you think and the way you walk. But scar tissue does fade, eventually. And you wont look like the old you, but you will not look this raw, this pained.

You are doing well, I think, to have made it this far and to continue to write and engage in conversation constantly.

6 months. It is a milestone indeed, and one you should be proud of coming to with your children by your side and living in a place where you may be able to heal.

Which is a lot of waffle to say that even as a stranger I think of you lots and I wish that "vibes" were real because I would send as many nurturing and healing vibes as I could.

Six months ….. that seems un-real, somehow. Can it really be so long? and yet, so little time?
What you've been through, Lori — six months is nothing. A blink. And yet the longest six months of your life.

You're amazing. And I wish with all my heart that you didn't have to be.

Six months. No-one is the same from 6 months ago but no-one has the added & added stressors you've had in that time. Pretty sure, you are unique there.
My view is to look at those 6 months in terms of the kids. A long time for three y o and even longer for lil sister.
You though, are finding raw nerves exposed when least expected. Like the phantom pain (REAL) after an amputation.
Your amputation, sudden and irrevocable came 6 months ago. The pain strings… Recedes … Stings again.
Thank goodness you write. Vent. Laugh. Feel. Cry.
Loved by so many yet only you walk in your shoes. Again. So very sorry but love your will & determination and guts.D

While we’re here, the winner of the Tinkerbell DVD is…. Allie from In A Beautiful Pea Green Boat! Her girls are going to love this DVD. And she, like I, will be able to recite very freaking word of it within a few weeks time.

And *ahem* anyone looking for yesterday afternoon’s amazing disappearing post, please don’t fret- it will be back. Why did it go? I do not know. When will it be back? When the Google god gives his blessings, I suppose.

So… Wordless Wednesday. Like I said, I just can’t seem to shut the hell up. Shutting up… now.

Adorable! And not insensitive. Others, IMHO, are being oversensitive. Get over it people.

Tried to comment on your FYBF post yesterday but my computer wouldn't let me. My netbook has a virus. Whoa is me…

When I participate in Wordless Wednesday, I do the same thing and prattle on about my pic. But, come on, it's just too hard not to say SOMETHING, right?!

Multi tasking, not insensitive, no one expects a reasonable person to abuse their children, they look happy to me, bet they wanted to stay there.

Wow Kylie, I'm so sorry you found this insensitive. It actually hadn't occurred to me. My blog is, for me, an 'island'- I rarely judge the things I post against the happenings of the world. Especially when they've been sitting in my drafts folder for weeks.

As the pictures show, my children were supervised, popped into our old washing machine for the purpose of taking a few cute photos. They barely fit as it was.

Once again, I'm sorry if anyone finds this insensitive. But I'm sure, if I compared most of my posts to the relevant news of the world, or personal circumstances, there would be something in that someone could find inappropriate.

Cheers.

The only thing I ever find in my washer is mismatched socks. I like yours WAAAAY better!
Absolutely adorable.

Oh, and would I sound like a total 4 year old if I told you that I was sad that my button was missing off your sidebar?
I would?
Ok. I won't mention it. ;)

They look so happy in their 'bath' too :D

Congrats to Allie for winning the Tinkerbell DVD.

Now any hints on how I can get my girls to stop singing 'Who Let the Dogs Out'. ?????
