FlogYoBlog Friday- The Karma Edition.

Mushi mushi,

There’s been a bit of chatter on the InterWebs the last week or so about people who are.. well… let’s call them Memeaphiles. People who link and run, without feeling the community spirit and feeding the Follow list and comment box of others.

Now, I’d hate to think any of my FYBFer’s were responsible for this kind of behavior
. Sorry, I had to strike that whole sentence. I really do sound a bit too much like my mother. She’s a school teacher, did you guess that?

Whatever. I think you know where I’m going with this. Don’t make me instate one of those silly rules where you have to comment on every second blog of the six  before you, or something like that. No one expects you to comment when you have nothing to add, or Follow blogs that just don’t tickle your pickle.

But, please, share the comment and clicky love around. Have a hop through the blog hop. As the name suggests, that’ what it’s good for. You will find some super cool, funny, moving, competition-entering good posts, I promise you that. Or your money back. Or a lifetime of jellybeans Or something.

There’s even a whole plethora of different memes and linkies and hops out there- Friday really is the day for it. Is it because Friday, Follow and fun go so very well together? Entirely possible. Go, my children, see what is beyond yonder purple hills. Just remember y’all come back for FYBF, ya hear?

Leaky karma. Yuhuh. From here. Stealing pictures is bad karma too, mmkay?

OK, enough of my waffling. Go on, get your link on. Follow the rules. Just remember- it’s called karma, baby, and it goes around.

The New Rules (which are kinda almost pretty much the same as the Old Rules)
  1. Follow my blog. (*ahem* *cough* My Blog. Me me me. Me me. You get the picture.)
  2. Grab B‘s bubbly button- she is the FYBF inventor extraordinaire- and post it on your sidebar.
  3. Link your First Name and/or Blog Name and URL of your linked post (not your homepage) below.
  4. Add a short description (max of 125 chars). It could be a description of yourself, your blog or a teaser to your latest post.
  5. Follow at least 1 linkyer/blogger (Be nice and spread the love).
  6. The list will be open for linkyers on Fridays (and for the foreigners Friday as well).
  7. A new and fresh link list will open  every  Friday. And you will have to link up AGAIN. The previous link list   does not carry over to the following week.
  8. And lastly, have lotsa fun. I mean it. If I  detect anyone not totally loving the awesomeness, I will bump you off  the linky list. (Joking) (Kinda).

Lori, I'd love to clicky click my way through the list, but it's way too long for a slow reader like me on dial-up. Other blogs have this flog your blog thing too, and in the beginning I did try to get through a list or two but I just can't be reading here 36 hours a day.

Pleased to meet you! I'm new this week, but I *love* blog hops. Will probably click a half dozen today, then skip back over the weekend if I've time for more. :-)

I try and read as many as I can (and always attempt comment on whatever I read/whomever I visit) and I follow those that are up my alley.

Vagina Shaming. – RRSAHM

Vagina Shaming.

by Lori Dwyer on June 13, 2013 · 12 comments

Once upon a time, many many moons ago when my son was just a baby, I went to my local doctor and requested a pap test.

Which the doctor refused to perform, sending me away with a half-baked excuse about how he “didn’t do that procedure” and leaving me to make an alternate appointment, with a different doctor.

It also left me with that feeling that I think a lot of women reading this will identify with- that there was something inherently shameful, distasteful and probably unclean about my vagina.

I shouldn’t have to feel that way anywhere, and neither should anyone else. Especially not in a doctor’s office.

Not that it’s anything new. My first introduction to the fact that vagina’s had a smell at all came from the boys on my primary school bus route. When the stench of the nearby creek crept through the bus windows and assaulted our noses, these kid would pick a random female on the bus and tell her to “Close your legs!!” before dissolving into laughter.

It bothered me then, for all kinds of reasons I couldn’t name. It bothers me now, still. Mainly because boys like those on my school bus never really grew up.

They just got taller. And some of them became politicians.

In case you missed the media sh*t storm from your vantage point under that rock, a menu distributed at a recent function used this terminology to describe a dish named after our Prime Minister…

“Small breasts, huge thighs, and a big red box”

Because, in case you missed this too, our PM has a vagina.

In truth, it’s an old joke, another one I’ve been hearing since high school. Something about KFC giving you a breast and thighs and a greasy box to put your bone into when you’re ‘done’.

Because, of course, vagina’s are greasy. They smell. They’re dirty.

For pity’s sake.

I’m not going to repeat the same circle jerking arguments that are going on in the Australian media right now. The fact that Julia Gillard (that’s the PM, for those of you in Oman. Hi, Erin) had to defend herself against this is ridiculous. The fact that she might have to defend herself for defending herself  is worse.

As Eden so succinctly put it– would it be okay to say “Obama’s big black cock”? Of course not. But even if it was, it wouldn’t have quite the same tone. A penis is something to be proud of. A vagina, apparently, is not.

Enough of the stupidity. Enough of the misogyny.

And enough of the vagina shaming.

Yes, whether one likes Julia Gillard or not, it is disgusting that our first female prime minister has been subjected to criticism for so many non political things! Yeah sure, we all commented on John Howard’s bushy eyebrows but his appearance never really mattered.
As for the doctor that didn’t do Pap smears…really? Wow, he’d never have made it on “Embarrassing bodies” that’s for sure!

I read somewhere that we shouldn’t tell people to grow a pair of balls because they are weak and fragile and that we should wish people to grow a vagina because they really take a beating.

All politics aside I really feel bad for the PM. Anyone who thinks that things for women in the workplace are equal to men really only need to look as far as our political figures. I struggle with being fan of banging on and on about women’s rights because it just highlights that we are different, when that isn’t what it is about. It is just about people. We are all people. It shouldn’t really matter. Maybe its my HR hat, but people should be ‘judged’ based on themselves and that person they are, not by some characteristic. God made us people.

“people are just people, they shouldn’t make you nervous… people are just people like you…”

And of course, the PM has had to defend her relationship on radio, coz the idiot radio presenter refused to allow her to end the conversation he was trying to have about the sexuality of her partner – coz that’s what this election is all about. That and blue ties (which, by the by, the Labor pollies are wearing).

It’s isn’t fake. It’s real, it exists, some guy decided it would be a great joke to create it. Whether it was used at a function or distributed beyond a small number of people doesn’t alter the reality of that piece of paper. No one is denying they made it, simply the audience that saw it.

Mind Your Language. – RRSAHM

Mind Your Language.

by Lori Dwyer on January 4, 2011 · 16 comments

S’up,

Those of you who follow me on Twitter, and happened to be around last night, may have seen two things. Number one, I was having a totally f**ked up absolute bi-atch of a day. Number two, someone decided to take offense to take something I said. And I, of course, took offense back.

And the thing that smarted the most, about this whole encounter? This chick was right. There is nothing more infuriating than having someone call you on something, make you feel like a d**k, and then have them be correct about it.

Anyway. Let’s rewind, and I’ll fill you in.

I’ve spoken about my experiences breastfeeding my children before. I wouldn’t call myself a lactivist- what happened last night showed me I certainly can’t wear that badge. But I think I’d call myself a Huge Breastfeeding Advocate With Unlimited Empathy. I spoken before about how, from my humble POV, this is a societal problem, with so many different causes and roots and we have a freaking long way to go before breastfeeding is the norm again. Before no one thinks twice about it.

Before we don’t even have to have those conversations on Twitter, or write blog posts about it. Because there is no issue there to talk about.

Sorry, I’m waffling again.

Point is, in my Twitter stream last night, a few people were discussing a show on Foxtel (cable, for the Americans- which I do not have because I am a loser) called Extreme Breastfeeding. Oh, my. Shock horror. Women breastfeeding four-year-olds. You can imagine the discussion, I’m sure.

So I Tweeted this.

Cause… that’s how I roll. I don’t pick at people personally, it’s none of my bloody beeswax. But I did think it was important to put an open discussion out there. I wanted to see, in my Twitter stream, at least, as many people talking positively about breastfeeding as there were talking negatively.

And for a few short minutes, it worked. Conversation was respectful, views were aired, there was no narkiness. We’re all adults here.

Or at least we are, in my little chunk of the Twitterverse.

But it seems, for all the good I did, I used the wrong bleeping word to do it.

Some of you may have read this article. My homegirl Holly has blogged it before, and I came across it on a parenting forum quite a while back, and it was Tweeted to me again last night. It’s brilliant. It’s truth. It is a bit more hardcore that what I will ever be. But, really, it’s a must read for any new mum. Any experienced mum. Any mum.

And here in lies my conundrum. Did I do more harm than good, Tweeting what I did? Would it have been better to Tweet nothing, than to errantly use the phrase “extended breastfeeding” to imply feeding a child older than, say, twelve months?

The funny thing about all this is, the Tweep that called me up on this is not a Follower of mine. She never has been, I don’t think. For those of you who are not on Twitter (Hello? The dark side is waiting…), that basically means that, to see my Tweet, she would have done a general search for the word ‘breastfeeding’. And then picked my Tweet out of that stream to respond to.

Which is curious. Because if she saw my Tweet in that stream, she no doubt would have seen a dozen or so bagging a show called ‘Extreme Breastfeeding’. Why didn’t she respond to them?

Because it would have been too difficult to take that on, in 140 characters or less?

That’s the problem with Twitter. It’s the beauty of it too. The brevity. The relative anonymity. It’s a regular occurrence, almost offending someone on Twitter. I think I did that with the lovely Carly last night, during the fall out. And we all remember what happened with our good mate Joe.

The key to Twitter is the same as any social media- never take things too seriously. Sometimes, when you have to be so succinct, you can use the wrong word, in the wrong context.

For the right purpose.

Is that any excuse to be rude?

We, as bloggers and Tweeps, speak to our audience, yes? We use the colloquial language of a technological generation. Do we sometimes use phrases that appeal to the lowest common denominator? Of course we do.

I stole this picture from That Tech Chick. She’s cool.

The intended audience for that particular Tweet was the people in my stream who were obviously not so accepting of the very natural act that is lactation. I used a phrase, a language, that would resonate with the current conversation.

I wasn’t Tweeting to the choir. I was talking to the uninitiated. Surely, I can be forgiven for using slightly imperfect language, if the intention is respectable? If my intention was to be an advocate, to illicit an open flow of conversation? Is it the intention, or the effect that speaks louder here? Was the effect of my Tweet more positive than any potential negatives that come from that phrase…?

Maybe not.

Whatever. I did end up apologising to this Tweep for my language- but not the breastfeeding bit. Just the narkiness. I’m not sure my mother would approve of me saying “F**k you too” to a stranger.

So..that’s it. Thanks for listening. I’m not even sure why I’m writing this all down, except for the fact that what I do here is to document things that happen. To speak. And I feel better now. Kind of.

I am slightly in shock over the fact that the first time someone told me to ‘watch my language’, it was over the phrase ‘extended breastfeeding’ and not the word ‘c*nt‘. And I am slightly terrified of the response I’ll get when I tag this post ‘boobies‘.

But again, whatever. Like most things, I’m sure that will pass. As the lovely Ravishing Diminishing Lucy says– gracious is as gracious tweets.

From my experience, breastfeeding is one of those topics that people seem to get a bug up their arses about – ready to jump down the throat of ANYONE that dares to even think about saying the 'wrong' thing. Unfortunately you were on the receiving end of such defensiveness Lori. As the girls have said above, there was nothing even slightly offensive about your tweet – that woman obviously had nothing better to do with her time!
Can completely understand why it hurts, but honestly, it's not worth losing sleep over hun, people like that are not worth the energy. The fact that she didn't bother to respond to your explanation is proof in point!

Ah this kind of thing annoys the hell out of me. You were in no way offensive, the terminology changes like the wind, it's so difficult to keep up with all. The fact that you said that breastfeeding a 4 year old was considered normal practice in a lot of countries should have been enough. People need to get down from their high horses as they actually do their cause more harm than good.

Extended breastfeeding is a common term, well I think so (so it must be)! Not a Twitter user so probably missed the point, though I really appreciated the article when Holly posted it.

You are kinder & gentler than I. As I said a few tweets ago, support toward breastfeeding goes a lot further than the lingustics and terminology ever will.

Rather than fretting over what extending breastfeeding can be called, let us be gentle on one another and hope that more empathy equals more babies breastfed for longer.

The biggest lesson to learn when it comes to breastfeeding advocacy is you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Tact, not condescension.

Girlfriend should take note!

P.S; Your tweet does more for the cause than what that other chick's one does, and if she tries to pick on you again … I'm going to unleash an unholy tirade of c**t bombs at her ;)

By the way, if breastfeeding a four year old is considered to be the norm, what is the 'correct weaning age'? I would use the term 'extended breastfeeding'.

Anyway as soon as a child is eating their 3 healthy meals a day, they are getting all the nutrients they need aren't they? I'm talking about kids old enough to talk, feed themselves, and wipe their own arses, they probably don't 'need' to be breastfeed (just a presumption, I am not a dietitian of any sort)

You can choose to breastfeed as long as you want, and I have no problem with that. But don't go all ninja on someone for using the term 'extended breastfeeding' sheesh

Yours Truely,

A "premature weaner"

I recorded this last night, mid anxiety attack,in a friend’s bathroom in the ‘burbs. Why? I’m not quite sure.I guess it’s just more of this ‘telling the truth’ crap I rave on about.

"When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth"

Lori this song is one of my favourites and every time i read your blog it plays in my head. i wish to god /i ould fix you and take away your pain. xx

You.are.amazing. To share your self – your actual self, not just your words – when you are in such a vulnerable place just floors me. You are in hell, yes indeed. But I think that because you are willing to share this hell, you will make it out much quicker than others would. Keep doing what you're doing Lori. There is a whole world of support for you here. xxx

((HUGS)) I just want to squeeze you… I have been there and those have been words out of my mouth "I don't want to die, I just want to sleep (until it gets easier, better, less painful)" It's a horrible place to be and I wish I could take you away from it xox

I haven't lived your life or loss, but I have said exactly what you have said (mostly word for word) in those lonely hours where I feel despair. I don't feel that anyone I know realises the pain I go through every single day and night, just to be here. But I will be here and stay here, because I have my kids, and without me, they have no chance.
But I do understand what it's like to feel completely hopeless and helpless and to wonder how the fuck this has happened to you.
I can't do anything to help you but to say to hang in there. xo

I am in a class right now that is all about spiritual awakening. (Gosh, I hope that doesn't scare you to ignore this post!) Anyway, we sometimes get homework to read things and write our responses to them.

The latest homework was an article by a woman named Miriam Greenspan. She, in basic, talks about all emotions having value – even the dark, "bad" ones and when we embrace them and allow ourselves to feel them, we move through and become more than we were. Even if they are heartwretchingly hard.

She has a book called "Healing through the Dark Emotions: the Wisdom of Grief, Fear and Despair". Based on the article I read and the things she had to say in it, this might be a book worth looking into.

Sending you lots of love and light to make it through such a dark time in your life.

Oh Lori I too wish I could hug you.

That video could have been straight from my mouth 12 years ago. If not for my son I don't think I would have been able to keep going. The only thing that ever helped me at those moments was to bring my mind back to making it through hour by hour. To gain some satisfaction that I had made it another hour, then another.

You are so so early in this horrible grief journey and I hope you realise that and have people around you that understand that too. 6 months is no time at all though society seems to think it is.

I wish you peace and understanding as you continue on this grief rollercoaster.

xx

Lori… I wish I could be as raw as you. We are in a completely different situation but also have been forced to live a life we didn't plan and would rather not be in. We go on because we have to, not because we are amazingly strong (although I believe you are incredibly so) We don't want to not be alive, we just don't want to be living this life.
I am not sure you know how many people are out here, not just reading your blog for something to do but because we feel like you are a part of our life. It's a bizarre concept but real never the less. I watched Insight last night, and hubby asked me why. I said "A friend is going to be on it and I want to watch" and then had a giggle to myself and thought "oh.. friend who doesn't even know me? Is that stalkerish?" Thankfully he didn't ask for further clarification because I don't think he would have understood.
Lori.. you are amazing. You are loved. You are doing the best anyone could ask for. I wish you didn't have to. I wish we could all just live the life we planned for ourselves: the life that it seemed was on track then derailed with no warning.
xx Kazz

I'm so sorry you have to go through this Lori.

Grief is so unpredictable, our emotions are so raw and volatile. It was like that for me for such a long time but three years on it is softer around the edges, more predictible. Take that to mean it will not be like this forever. You will always have pain, but it changes and you change.

The one thing I was told that I find pops into my head in hard times is "be kind to yourself". Give yourself a hug and remind yourself that considering what you have been through you are one strong amazing woman, even on your worst day. And its okay to hate him sometimes for what he did. I heard about someone who wanted to vent that anger once and they went to an op shop and bought a huge stack of old ceramic plates. And then smashed them to smithereens in the back yard. I wish I had done that.

I wish you peace and some long wonderful sleep. xx

Oh Lori, I feel so sad watching this. ((HUG))

You're doing well, it probably doesn't feel that way, but you're letting yourself feel it, and what else can you do? Just let the pain, the toxicity, all of it, spew out of you.

You express yourself so well, and in so many ways, and it's healthy. It's healthy that you're sad, the part that sucks is that it feels like shit.

How brave you are to keep waking up everyday to face this pain and feel it and let it out. That's really hard, but you're doing it. Keep reaching out, and keep talking.

You've had some rays of sunshine here and there, my biggest wish for you is that more comes your way soon.

Your words, I have thought them many many a time. You just want everything to stop. Not that awful numb feeling that you're able to hold, but more of a blankness. The world stops moving and gives you time to catch up.
I am here for you, in any way I can be. I know it is hard to reach out, but I feel helpless as to what I can do, and I mean it that if you ever need a break from the kids or someone to just sit with you, anything, I am more than happy to do what I can. Do not be afraid to ask. It may not help, but it may just lift a little of the load for you.

I know it doesn't feel that way now — but I'll tell you what — I will believe it for you until you are in a place where the glimmer of it shows itself and I can give it back to you.

Lori,
I know that no words said by any of us, no matter how well-intended, will ease your pain. I understand that the only thing that would ever come close to making the void inside you fill, would be if it had all been a horribly mistake, and Tony showed up at your door, apologizing for all the pain and sadness.

But, I hope that you can take some comfort in knowing that from your little piece of paradise, allllll the way in OZ… you've reached around the world.
I'm in Texas and I think of you daily. You're in my nightly routine. While you've forced yourself out of bed to start my tomorrow, I am sitting down to start editing my book… but before I do, I think of you. I check your page, I send positive vibes your way… and hope, that somehow, even just a few get through.
My girlfriend calls you my other girlfriend, because I have to check on you and I tell her the next morning how you are.

If you EVER want to take a trip to the U.S. come on over, bring the kids, my girlfriend is a nanny, so we've got the kids handled! Or come alone and take a holiday. You've always got a place here.

P.S. We don't bite ;)

Thanks for sharing, keep it comin'.

Love to you and yours.

I know there is nothing that any of us can do except listen but I so wish there was something more, anything!

Thank you for vlogging that though, I think if anyone with even a distant thought of committing suicide watched that they would see the "other side" of the coin, the side of the people that get left behind and I truly believe that many of them would think twice before doing anything that extreme.
Take it easy on yourself and know that you are doing the best that you can. Please never feel that it isn't enough. Noone should expect more than you can give right now.

Don’t You Know Who I Am?

by Lori Dwyer on March 4, 2010 · 6 comments

Howdy doody blogoroonies,

Following the events of the Big Bogan Weekend, I was feeling a wee bit bored, frustrated, and firmly in my mummy box. I decided the best course of action was— Radical Change *dum dum*.

Firstly, off to see my lovely hairdresser Abbey to get the chop. Abbey looks like Barbie, and is actually a bikini model in her spare time. She is also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, albeit very high maintence. She openly admits to having called in sick to work becuse she had a pimple. She calles in “calling in ugly”.

Anyway, two inches of hair gone, some chunky layers put in. Not that you can tell because I always have it pulled back into a boring, trying-to-be-messy ponytail/ bun. But I know, and that makes all the difference.

Next stop- the tattooists, to see Hot Piercer Dude. Hot Piercer Dude is a good friend of the Man’s. Last time I got my nose pierced, two years ago, the Man rang Hot Piercer Dude and told him that I was coming in, and Hot Piercer Dude charged me $10 to pierce my nose. Bargain! Unfortunately, that dream ended with me stupidly putting undiluted tea tree oil on it to clean it, and creating a massive scab where the pretty diamond stud used to be.

Since then, Hot Piercer Dude has been to a BBQ at our house. We have run into him numerous times around town. And the clincher- he came to our wedding. Watched me walk down the aisle, give a speech, say farewell. Keep that in mind as the story unfolds.

Now, when I have run into Hot Piercer Dude without the Man, Hot Piercer Dude has made brief eye contact with me, then looked away. I attribute this to him being a shy, quiet kind of guy- the dark, sexy, brooding, still waters run deep kind. I imagined there was some kind of unrequited sexual tension between us, and we were playing the I’ll-Pretend-Not-To-Recognise-You-In-A-Feeble-Attempt-To-Hide-My-Latent-Sexual-Urges game. Fine with me.

So I stroll on into the tattooists, smile and seat myself in the piercing chair, which looks rather like a pyshciatrists couch. Just to make sure he does know that I do, in fact, know him, I comment to Hot Piercer Dude that I hear he’s going to be a father soon. He smiles and mumbles non-commitedly.

After the almost pleasurable piercing process, I ask Hot Piercer Dude the question I really should have asked when I first walked in. “How much?”

“That’ll be seventy dollars”.

“What the flying f%#&? Seventy bleeping dollars? Excuse me???? Abbey the Hairdresser would have done it for $30!! Don’t you know who I am?!”

That what I think, anyway. I only wish I had said it out loud. Instead I blushed, stammered, handed Hot Piercer Dude the $10 note I had gotten out, then wrenched it back and replaced it with my poor old beaten abused key card. Payed my seventy bucks and hightailed it outta there, the stench of humiliation following me all the way. Screw you, Hot Piercer Guy. And the massive flesh tunnel you rode in on in.

So, after all that, here’s the end result. Looks good, doesn’t it? Please tell me it does, for seventy freaking dollars it really should.

Tastes Like Teen Spirit.

by Lori Dwyer on April 3, 2013 · 0 comments

When I said I was only doing cool giveaways from now on… this is one of those. Because, as we know- I love music. Music-ness brings happiness. Or something. And concerts are good for everything that ails you.

And sometimes awesome stuff shows up on my doorstep. Like this…

image

Why yes, those are bottles of juice that have been grown to the strains of different types of music. Check it out. We’ve got…

Blue Suede Juice– made with Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and all those groovers.

Baby I Was Grown This Way– serenaded by Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry and various other popettes.

And, my personal favorite– Tastes Like Teen Spirit. Influenced by the Seattle sounds– Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Pixies and so on.

Why, you ask…? Well. They’re all Made By MOG, Telstra’s new music streaming service. There’s this theory that plants who are played music make better, tastier fruit, and therefore better, tastier juice.

I’m a big believer in all that hippy stuff, as we know. Music and moods make the world go round. Little thoughts can have big effects. There’s a whole school of thought and experimentation called ‘ecosonics’- music for your plants. Which ties in beautifully with the concept of ‘Noetics’ based on research that suggests that the collective thoughts of people actually produce enough physical energy to cause identifiable effects on their environment. They have online experiments you can participate in– its one of those things on my “I’m gonna do this, eventually” list.

The jury’s still out as to whether or not playing MOG music has had any effect on the taste of the juice itself. And I’ve even got control samples for this experiment– Cedar Creek Orchard, where the apples were serenaded, is an institution in TinyTrainTown. It’s just up the road. So close, in fact, I even got you a photo to prove it.

Anyway. Taste aside, the juice certainly looks happy. And that’s what counts. Although, having said that, free juice– and a $100 admin fee to write this post– certainly contributes to both musicality and happiness. Or… something.

In honour of music being awesome, I’ve got the following stuff to be won, just for you, my jellybeans…

Ten x 1 month MOG subscriptions.

One x $100 TicketMaster voucher.

To win, I want to know– if you could flavour a beverage with music, what music would you choose? What song, do you think, would taste good?

Go in the draw to win by filling in the form below- if you can’t see the form, click here. Answers that particularly tickle my pickle at the time of drawing the prizes win. Entries close midnight AEST on the 10th April, 2013. Winners will be contacted by email and have 48 hours to respond before their prize is redrawn. My decision is final and no bitching, whinging or circle-jerking shall be entered into.

Getting Bloggy With It.

by Lori Dwyer on December 4, 2009 · 1 comment

Hi all,

OK, so here ’tis- my first ever blog entry. Tbh, I should be in bed like dh and the kids but I’ve been menaing to start blogging for ages so I’ve chosen to seize the moment and just get one started. Maybe I’ll actually write in it if i start one. But maybe not. Don’t blame me if I only do one entry… blame my terrible tendency toward procrastination.

So, what do i write about? just anything, huh? My name is Lori, I’m 28, have two kids under two (for another week or so, at least) and very little time for any kind of life. In my life before kids, I had an awesome job working as a kid’s entertainer, first doing parties, then at the kid’s hospital, and before that I did three quarters of a social work degree. I suffered from terrible PND, bordering on pyschosis, after my ds was born, and am on medication for it again now after dd‘s birth- but it’s working and i feel pretty good. I’m doing better at this ‘two under two’ thing than I thought I would be- it’s not as difficult as i thought it would be.

I prefer summer to winter, dogs to cats, Vegemite to peanut butter, Billy Connelly over Jerry Seinfeild, tea over coffee and cake over chocolate. I’m a bookworm, perfectionist, clean freak.

So that’s me. Thanks for reading (if anyone has). I’m off to bed. If I’m feeling really motivated, I’ll do some more blogging soon.
